How does the WhatsApp earn money without Ads? What is revenue of WhatsApp?

WhatsApp is the most globally popular messaging app running without ads . As you know, companies like Facebook, Instagram and YouTube make money using ads. But how does the WhatsApp make money without any charges or placing ads..? Have you wondered about that..?  Does anyone work for free in the world?

WhatsApp was created on May 3, 2009.  The creators made a decision while creating this, that they should not show any ads on WhatsApp.  And to be created to share people’s personal information.

After creating the WhatsApp they said, everyone can use it for free for a year.  After that people were asked to pay $0.99 per year due to lack of funds.  People can use for free even if not paid but, asked to pay.

Then, on Feb 2014, Facebook planned to buy WhatsApp, as there are many users on WhatsApp than Facebook. WhatsApp founders attached purchase price of $16 billion ($4 billion in cash and $12 billion remaining in Facebook shares). This price tag is dwarfed by the actual price Facebook paid $21 billion or $55 per user.

A few years ago, Mark Zuckerberg (Facebook founder) collected all personal data of the people using WhatsApp. Using this information, Mark Zuckerberg placed ads on Facebook. Whatever we type on WhatsApp, will show ads related to it on Facebook. For example, if we type Colgate on WhatsApp, then Facebook will show Colgate ads.

The supreme court asked Facebook and WhatsApp to reveal what information is being shared with third parties. This comes from the five-judge panel that is hearing the petition that changed WhatsApp privacy policies to end to end encryption.

Then WhatsApp launched WhatsApp Business app. They are not earning with this, but there is a chance to earn in the future. Now they initially started WhatsApp Pay in some countries.

WhatsApp's largest user basis in India, but Indian revenue in 2019 was just ₹ 6.84 crores , which is equal to only $ 1 million in USD. It was making money, but not getting profit, WhatsApp is giving free service. now 1 billion+ people using WhatsApp and yet, WhatsApp is getting a big loss.
